The TOP OF THE SOUTH ride is an epic South Island adventure experience consisting of 60% dirt. This ride consists of 5 days of excellent riding, starting and finishing in Wellington, taking in some of the best back roads, tracks and river crossings that the north of the South Island has to offer.
Seven nights in the ride with overnights in Wellington, Hanmer Springs, Murchison, Reefton and Havelock, providing opportunity to look around some amazing New Zealand towns and enjoy the local hospitality.
Experience a large range of riding conditions from breathtaking river crossings , riding through famous high country stations and passing through remote alpine areas.
Riders will be met the day before the tour starts at Wellington airport/hotel and dropped-off the day that it finishes.
This ride has a “DIRT” focus with some tarseal riding and a lot of gravel roads, tracks and river/stream crossings to keep you on your toes.
This ride is only suited to riders with gravel and off-road riding abilities unless otherwise specified.

The Ride
Afternoon before - We will pick you up from the airport or meet you at the hotel for a introduction and handing over of your bike for the duration of our ride. We will all leave for the ferry terminal the next morning at the pre arranged time.
Day 1 - Wellington to Hanmer Springs. Leaving Wellington on the ferry, we land in Picton and make our way south along Molesworth Station to Hanmer Springs. 236KM- 65% Dirt
Day 2 - Hanmer Springs to Murchison. We head north along Rainbow Station Road before turning west for Murchison via dirt roads and tracks. 220KM - 70% Dirt
Day 3 - Murchison to Reefton. We head for Reefton via back roads and dirt roads before doing the Big River track and staying over in Reefton for the night. 165KM - 60% Dirt
Day 4 - Reefton to Reefton. We explore the area south of Reefton where there are a few good tracks to explore. There are some harder options available on this day for those who dare. 200+KM - 60% Dirt
Day 5 - Reefton to Havelock. This is a long day in the saddle with 300km of mostly back roads to cover to get to Havelock before enjoying a cold beverage. 300KM - 45% Dirt
Day 6 - Havelock to Wellington. Not much riding this day as we head for Picton to board the ferry heading for the capital.
We ride to our accommodation in Wellington after leaving the ferry and spend our last night together.
